75th anniversary of Slovak language school celebrated in Budapest

The 75th anniversary of the establishment of Budapest’s Slovak language kindergarten, primary and secondary school was marked at a ceremony on Saturday.

The Slovak and Hungarian nations have relied on each other through history, culture and “from other aspects such as Christianity … and will continue to do so in the coming centuries,” Miklós Soltész, state secretary at the Prime Minister’s Office, said at the ceremony. He added that both countries had an obligation to protect their ethnic minorities.

He noted that the school had been renovated in recent years using funds from the Hungarian government totalling 630 million forints. The ceremony was attended by Slovak Ambassador Pavol Hamzik.
