Hungarian employer denies mass recruitment of Filipino guest workers

TDK Hungary Components Ltd. has clarified its position on the employment of guest workers in Hungary following online speculation about the recruitment of 200 Filipino employees. While the company acknowledges it may hire foreign workers when local labour is insufficient, it emphasises that no fixed number of overseas recruits has been determined, and job postings remain within official channels.
TDK to hire 200 guest workers?
TDK Hungary Components Ltd. has responded to reports claiming it was recruiting 200 Filipino guest workers in Hungary. As Nyugat.hu writes, the rumour began after a Facebook post from a Philippine-based employment agency advertised operator positions at TDK’s Szombathely facility. The post included criteria such as age, height, English proficiency, and work experience, and received thousands of interactions online. However, following the publication of this information, TDK clarified that it had not authorised the job post and requested its removal. The company stated that its official job advertisements are published through regular channels, and no specific number of foreign workers had been determined.
Reaction to the claims
In a follow-up reported by VAOL, TDK issued a formal press release outlining its workforce strategy. The company, which has grown significantly over the past three decades, indicated that it is actively recruiting to support ongoing expansion and fulfil customer orders. While its primary focus remains on sourcing labour locally and regionally within Hungary, it acknowledged the possibility of hiring from outside the EU if necessary. TDK stressed that any foreign recruitment would be contingent on local labour availability and demand levels, and explicitly stated it could not confirm the figure of 200 workers mentioned in earlier reports. In the official statement, the company writes:
The company recruits employees from all available sources, mainly through local and regional channels, in line with its order book and production volume. In addition, we are constantly recruiting for our open positions from other, more distant parts of Hungary and, if necessary, from abroad. (…) If we cannot find enough people locally to fill the vacancies we advertise, we also recruit from outside the European Union to meet orders.
Fighting labour shortages
Guest workers in Hungary form part of a broader recruitment strategy for companies like TDK, particularly in times of labour shortages. However, TDK made clear that foreign recruitment is a supplementary option rather than a fixed plan, and continues to prioritise hiring from within Hungary whenever possible.
