Emilia Clarke and Haley Lu Richardson appear in one of Budapest’s most stunning buildings – PHOTOS

Budapest has long been a favourite filming location for Hollywood and international productions, attracting numerous celebrities over the years. Since January, Emilia Clarke and Haley Lu Richardson have been in the Hungarian capital, and they’ve recently reappeared—this time at a breathtaking venue.
Emilia Clarke is currently filming her new series, Ponies, in Budapest. The historical thriller is set in 1977 during the Cold War. Best known globally as Daenerys Targaryen from Game of Thrones, Clarke is not only starring in the lead role but also serving as a producer on the project. Ponies follows the story of two CIA agents, Bea (played by Clarke) and Twila (Haley Lu Richardson), who begin to uncover a major Cold War conspiracy in Moscow after the mysterious deaths of their husbands. Budapest was chosen as a filming location due to its architecture and atmosphere, which closely resemble the look of the Soviet capital in the 1970s.
Clarke arrived in Budapest in January and even visited a nail salon in Újlipótváros before filming began. The local Yom Tov salon posted a photo with the actress on Instagram, noting how friendly and down-to-earth she was with the staff.
Filming officially began in early February, so Clarke has been in Budapest for several months. Most recently, the Hungarian State Opera House shared images showing that both Emilia Clarke and Haley Lu Richardson have visited the iconic building twice. According to a post on the Opera House’s social media:
“The two stars of the American spy series Ponies, currently filming in Budapest, kept their promise and returned to the Opera House within a week. On Saturday evening, they attended a performance of Donizetti’s opera Maria Stuarda, which deeply impressed them both. This time, Emilia’s mother, Jenny Clarke, joined them for the visit.”
Emilia Clarke’s presence in Budapest isn’t just exciting news for local fans, but it’s further proof that the city remains a top destination for major international film and television productions. And for those with a keen eye, spotting a celebrity on the streets of Budapest isn’t impossible—if they can recognise them behind their disguises.
